ERSEA Certification FAQ's
Q: If I completed Level One in 2005 do I need to take it again to work on my certification?
A: Yes. All candidates for certification must complete all three ERSEA Level trainings plus attend and successfully pass the ERSEA Exam within a one year (twelve month) time period.
Q: Must I attend all of the trainings with others from my program?
A: No. Although we would strongly recommend programs come as a team, individuals can participate.
Q: What happens if I fail the ERSEA Exam?
A: The purpose of the Review session is to prepare you for the Exam.
However, if you did have a problem with the exam you would have to attend another Review session and successfully pass the Exam to receive the certification.
Q: What is the value of ERSEA Certification to me and my program?
A: Completion of the ERSEA Certification process has several benefits for both the individual and the program. They include:
For Individuals and Programs:
- In-Depth understanding the Requirements of Part 1305
- The development of skills that enable appropriate problem solving for issues related to ERSEA
- In-Depth understanding of ERSEA systems design and application
- Ability to put ERSEA theory into practice
- Ability to explain ERSEA to others whether they are parents or other staff
- Enhancement of program competence to strengthen ideas, strategies, and solutions for meeting and maintaining full enrollment
- Provide for continuous learning and annual program improvement
Q: Is my ERSEA Certification transferable if I go to work for another Head Start program?
A: Yes. The knowledge and skills that you develop will be an assest to any Head Start program.
Q: How long does my ERSEA Certification remain in effect?
A: The Individual ERSEA Certification is initially good for a three (3) year period. After 3 years it must be renewed by the completion of a Review session and successful completion of an ERSEA Exam.
Q: My program has sent me to Level One and Level Two but has decided not to continue with Level Three. Can I attend Level Three on my own as well as the Review and Exam session?
A: Yes. If you want to continue with the Certification process you may do so on your own time.
Q: I am interested in obtaining the Program Certification for our Head Start program. How many of my staff must complete the ERSEA trainings in order to qualify?
A: We require that a "Management Team" complete all three levels of the ERSEA trainings plus the Review and Exam. The exact make-up of the Team is left to the individual program.
